  • AA Gold and One World Ruby
  • Customers who apply for the preboarding in their bookings
  • Premium Economy
  • The cardmembers of Citi/AAdvantage Executive 

5. Group 5

  • This group is allotted to those customers who have preferred boarding
  • The AAdvantage credit cardholders
  • Main Cabin Extra or travelling on basic economy

6. Group 6

The complete group 6 is allotted to AAdvantage members 

7. Groups 7 and 8

The customer who has the reservation in Main Cabin is in Group 7

8. Group 9 

  • This group is for the basic economy ticket holders
  • Customers do not apply to AAdvantage status member 

How does American Airlines assign boarding groups?

The boarding groups on American Airlines are divided into two parts. The first group is for Groups 1 to 4, also known as the priority group. This group members will benefit from priority boarding, avoiding the long queue at the airport, earning miles early to get out from the flight, etc. The other group is from Group 5 to Group 9, also known as the main group. These customers do not apply for Priority boarding or travel through this group on basic economy and premium economy boards. The boarding groups also vary as per the membership status of passengers; if any passenger has elite status and is a member of basic economy class, then they will be automatically upgraded to group 3, and if any passenger has the status of AAdvantage Gold elite and makes the reservation of economy class, then they will be automatically upgraded to group 4.
