Where Can Americans Go for Travel? What Countries are Open?

With all of the laws and regulations, determining where Americans can visit at this time is a difficult task. In fact, the WHO has also allowed traveling but with proper safety measures. The United States rescind its global coronavirus travel advisory on August 6, which had been in effect since March, and advised Americans to avoid all overseas travel due to the global coronavirus pandemic.

The European Union has placed a travel ban on Americans, and Canada and Mexico have closed their land borders until January 21: With all of the laws and limits concerning which nations allow what, it's clear that one of the most pressing questions on American travelers minds where can Americans travel.

Here are the nations that are currently open to American visitors.

Albania

• COVID tests are not required for travel.
• Quarantine measures have been implemented.

Albania's land borders and commercial airports were opened to foreign travel on June 15. Although tourists are not required to present a negative COVID test upon arrival, the U.S. Embassy in Albania warns that they should expect increased screening and quarantine.

Anguilla

Travelers can preregister to visit Anguilla on the Anguilla Tourist Board's website beginning August 21. Visitors will be required to completely fill out their home address and anticipated travel dates, as well as provide negative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test results taken three to five days before arrival, to be eligible for travel. Antigua and Barbuda

Armenia

The Bahamas

• Quarantine for 14 days is required, as is a negative COVID-19 test.

All travelers must have a COVID-19 test that is negative no later than five days prior to their arrival date. Travelers who receive a negative test can apply for a Bahamas Travel Health Visa, which takes 48 hours to process.

Barbados

• Trip requirements include completing a travel form, wearing face masks, and passing a health examination.

Barbados' international airport reopened to commercial flights on July 12 and has been implementing stricter travel requirements for all visiting guests since August 5: At least 24 hours before departure, all travelers must complete an Embarkation/Disembarkation form on travelform.gov.bb, upload a negative COVID-19 test result, it is necessary to wear face masks at the airport, and undergo a health check.

Belarus

• Proof of a negative COVID-19 test is required for travel.

Citizens of the United States are allowed to go to Belarus, although there are health screening processes in place at airports and other ports of entry, according to the U.S. Embassy in Belarus.

Bermuda

• Two negative COVID-19 tests are required for travel.

Bermuda has been accessible to international visitors since July 1. Visitors will need to be done with the test process for COVID-19 at least twice: once, no more than five days before leaving the country, and again after they arrive. A Bermuda Travel Authorization is required of all visitors.

Egypt

Egypt reopened major tourist destinations in July, and as of August 15, passengers with documentation of a negative COVID test performed no later than 72 hours before arrival are able to enter to the country. Ghana

• COVID-19 test results must be negative both before and after travel.

Passengers arriving in Ghana must present documentation of a negative COVID-19 test completed no more than 72 hours before departure. Travelers must also undergo a second COVID-19 test upon arrival; those who test negative will be allowed to enter to the country without having to go through quarantine.

Ireland

• Quarantine for 14 days is required before travel.

All travelers visiting Ireland must self-isolate for a period of 14 days. Despite the fact that flights from the United States to Ireland are unrestricted, the Irish government advises against all non-essential overseas travelers and warns that the travel restrictions may be implemented with little or no notice.

St. Lucia

• Required for travel: A negative COVID test.

St. Lucia reopened to American visitors in early July. Visitors must present a negative COVID-19 test and expect to be subjected to temperature checks.

Turkey

Since June 12, Turkey has begun inviting overseas visitors. According to the embassy, as of December 30, 2020, all overseas travelers age 6 and older flying to Turkey must have done a COVID-19 PCR test with a negative result within 72 hours before their flight.

The United Arab Emirates

• Required for travel: A negative COVID test.

Travelers must take a COVID-19 test and provide a negative result to their airline within 96 hours of their travel, or they will be tested on arrival and forced to isolate while waiting for the findings.

Zambia

• A negative COVID-19 test and 14-day quarantine are required for travel.

All visitors entering Zambia must show documentation of a COVID-19 test that was negative within 14 days of their arrival. Individuals with symptoms will be screened at airports as well. Upon arrival, U.S. citizens must additionally undergo a two-week quarantine period.
